In addition to Music’s benefits to education, organizational dynamics, health and our day-to-day interactions, Music can now be viewed as the application of leading edge Theoretical Physics.
The great Astronomer Johannes Kepler, who discovered the Laws of Planetary Motion just over 400 years ago, thought that there was something very musical about planetary orbits. He called this “The Music of the Spheres”. A half century ago, his notion was thought to be a quaint, leftover aspect of medieval thinking. We now learn that he was just ahead of his time.
You may be familiar with the amazing, cutting-edge work of one our era’s great physicists, Dr. Michio Kaku. He is a theoretical physicist, best-selling author, and popularizer of science. He’s also the co-founder of string field theory (a branch of string theory), and continues Einstein’s search to unite the four fundamental forces of nature into one unified theory.
Dr. Kaku recently stated: “The latest version of String Theory is called M-Theory, “M” for membrane. So we now realize that strings can coexist with membranes. So the subatomic particles we see in nature, the quartz, the electrons are nothing but musical notes on a tiny vibrating string. What is physics? Physics is nothing but the laws of harmony that you can write on vibrating strings. What is chemistry? Chemistry is nothing but the melodies you can play on interacting vibrating strings. What is the universe? The universe is a symphony of vibrating strings. And then what is the mind of God that Albert Einstein eloquently wrote about for the last 30 years of his life? We now, for the first time in history have a candidate for the mind of God. It is, cosmic music resonating through 11 dimensional hyperspace. We are nothing but melodies. We are nothing but cosmic music played out on vibrating strings and membranes. Obeying the laws of physics, which is nothing but the laws of harmony of vibrating strings.”
Accordingly, WE are music and the science is there to confirm.
